COLUMBUS — This group of players would make quite a basketball team.
A total of 11 local players were named to the Division 3 and Division 4 All-Ohio basketball teams announced by the Ohio Prep Sports Writers Association.
In Division 3 there were 4 players named to the All-Ohio Special Mention list while 5 players were named to the Honorable Mention list.
Named Special Mention in D3 were South Point Pointers’ 6-3 senior Caleb Lovely, Ironton Fighting Tigers 6-2 junior Braden Schreck, Fairland Dragons 5-10 senior Chase Allen and Chesapeake Panthers 6-2 freshman Maddox Kazee.
Lovely — the South Point all-time leading scorer — was first team all-district as he averaged 19.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.5 steals.
Schreck averaged 18.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 steals a game as he was first team all-district. Schreck reached the 1,000 career points milestone.
Allen was first team all-district as he scored at an 18.2 clip per game with 3.1 rebounds and 3.8 assists. Allen reached the 1,000 career point plateau.
Kazee was a key reason the Panthers won the Ohio Valley Conference title. The first team all-district selection averaged 12.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.5 steals.
Named Honorable Mention was Ironton’s 5-10 junior Shaun Terry who averaged 12.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.6 steals a game.
Fairland’s 5-10 junior Brody Buchanan was Honorable Mention as he averaged 17.1 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists a game.
Chesapeake’s 5-8 senior Dannie Maynard averaged 11.5 points, 3.6 assists and 1.5 steals a game in joining the Honorable Mention team.
Rock Hill Redmen 5-9 senior Blake Porter averaged 15.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.2 steals a game.
Coal Grove Hornets’ 6-2 junior Owen Johnson averaged 22.5 points a game and eclipsed 1,000 career points.
All 5 players were second team all-district selections.
In Division 4, the Symmes Valley Vikings 5-11 junior guard Ethan Smith was named Special Mention while the Green Bobcats 6-4 junior Jon Knapp was Honorable Mention.
Smith was first team all-district as he averaged 15.3 points a game along with 6.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.6 steals.
Knapp was second team all-district as he averaged 17.2 points a game.
South Webster head coach Norm Persin — who won his 800th career game this season — was named Co-Coach of the Year in Division 4. He was joined by Keith Lambert of Plain City Shekinah Christian.
The D4 Player of the Year was Quinn Kwasniak of Willoughby Cornerstone Christian.
The D3 Co-Players of the year were Colin White of Ottawa-Glandorf and Jesse McCulloch of Cleveland Heights Lutheran East.
The Coach of the Year was Dennis Tucci of Malvern.
