CINCINNATI — Adam Berg netted two goals – including the game winner – to lead a third period rally to lift the Cincinnati Cyclones to a 4-3 win over the Wheeling Nailers on Sunday afternoon.
Zach Berzolla gave Cincinnati an early 1-0 lead with his sixth goal of the season when he blazed the puck past Wheeling goalie Brad Barone's left shoulder.
Wheeling responded with a goal of their own, as Geno Esteves evened the game up at the 7:53 mark. Then Berg followed with his first goal of the game to give the Cyclones a 2-1 after one period.
The Nailers answered with two straight goals from Cedric Desruisseaux – who scored his 29th goal of the season – and Tanner Laderoute scored his first professional goal to give Wheeling a 3-2 lead with 12:35 remaining in regulation.
Zack Andrusiak capitalized on a rebound after a shot by Louie Caporusso, and wristed the loose puck into the net to tie the game up.
Berg delivered the game-winner shortly after a Cyclones power play came to an end. The 23-year old forward received a pass from teammate Lee Paid and found the back of the net with 3:59 remaining in the game.
Cincinnati currently sits atop the Central Division and hold a six-point lead on Toledo. The Cyclones can clinch the Central Division with a win against the Walleye when the two teams meet on Friday evening.
