Bobcats set to open MAC Tournament play on Thursday

CLEVELAND The 3-seeded Ohio men's basketball team will face the No. 6 seed Western Michigan Broncos in the Mid-American Conference Tournament on Thursday, Mar. 14 at Cleveland's Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.


Tip-off is set for 30 minutes upon the 6:30 p.m. and the game can be seen on ESPN+ or heard on WXTQ (Power 105) with the "Voice of the Bobcats" Russ Eisenstein and Rob Cornelius.


Ohio will be searching for its eighth MAC tournament title, with the last coming in 2021.


The two teams met once this season in Kalamazoo, with the Broncos (12-19) winning the contest 73-67. However, Ohio (19-12) is 4-2 all-time against Western Michigan in MAC Tournament play.


On the season, Western Michigan averages 71.8 points per game and are shooting 43.6%

from the field. From behind the arc, the Broncos are 34% and just 63% from the foul line.


The Broncos are led in scoring by Seth Hubbard, who averages 14.3 points a gam and his 32.5% from the three-point line this season. JB Artis White averages 10.3 points and JaVaughn Hannah averages 9.3 per game.


Hannah was named the MAC Sixth Man of the Year and White was named All-MAC Honorable Mention.


For Ohio, they average 77.6 points a game,while shooting 45.8% from the field and 36.1% from three. The Bobcats are currently 72.8% from the foul line and force an average of 13.5 turnovers a game.


Individually for the Bobcats, Jaylin Hunter leads the team with 13.9 points a game and shot 42.4% from the field this season. Shereef Mitchell adds 13.3 points a game and AJ Clayton averages 12.4 points.


Hunter was named Second Team All-MAC, while Clayton was named Third Team All-MAC.
