Bobcats welcome back Coach Hall with rout of Lancers

FRANKLIN FURNACE — Things couldn't have gone any more smoother for Green and Larry Hall's return to being head coach, as the Bobcats routed the Federal Hocking Lancers 42-0 on Friday Night at Bobcat Stadium.

For the past 15 seasons, Hall had been an assistant at Jackson for his son, Andy. But despite Hall having nearly two decades of head coaching experience, he did admit it was strange at first.

"It felt pretty good actually. Kind of strange at first taking over a lot of the things that you sometimes just had one side of the ball to be responsible for," said Hall. "But I got a lot of help from my assistants and things went really smooth."

Both the offense and defensive lines for Green (1-0) helped out a lot as well.

The Bobcat offensive line helped roll up 193 yards on the ground on the offensive side of the ball. Then defense suffocated the Lancers, limiting them to just 25 total yards and no first downs.

"The line came on and played really well after the first quarter. Defensively, we just mauled them upfront," said Hall.

Green got on the board with 5:54 remaining in the opening quarter, as Blake Smith broke through the defense and scored from 16-yards out. Quincy Merrill added the extra point to make it 7-0.

One of the few bright spots for the Lancers came on defense early in the second quarter, when defensive back Johnny Campanaro came up with an interception at the two-yard line to thwart a potential Bobcat score.

However, Green forced a three-and-out, and Smith added his second score on the next possession. This time from 13-yards out. The score was set up on the play before, when quarterback Landon Kimbler hit a diving Mason Neal to convert a fourth-and-10.

On the ensuing possession, Green stuffed a fourth down run attempt by Campanaro, giving the Bobcats the ball at the Lancer 45.

Three-straight runs by Cunningham led to another score. The final run, being a 7-yard burst into the endzone and then he added the two-point conversion run to make it 21-0 at the half.

Cunningham finished the night with a game-high 106 yards on the ground on 14 carries and caught one pass for 27 yards. Smith 13 times for 75 yards and tallied 3 rushing scores.

The Bobcats continued to put their foot on the gas pedal in the second half, as Kimbler capped off their opening drive of the third quarter with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Merrill off the bootleg to make it 28-0 with 7:42 left.

Kimbler later added a rushing score to round out the final score at 42-0.

The Bobcats will host Grove City Christian next Friday night.
