Brewers beat Reds after rain delay

CINCINNATI — Wade Miley returned from the injury list to throw a one-hitter through four innings and Christian Yelich hit a two-run homer to help the Milwaukee Brewers to a 7-2 win over the Cincinnati Reds on rain-soaked Wednesday night.

Miley, 37, found himself on the injury list to begin the season due to pain in his throwing shoulder. He was activated before Wednesday's game and got the start since many of Milwaukee's top pitchers are ailing.

Hunter Green (0-1) got the start for Cincinnati and struck out nine batters in six innings. However, he allowed six earned runs on six hits, which included homer runs from Yelich and Blake Perkins.

Yelich's homer game the Brewers an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first and the slugger now has seven RBIs in the series so far.

Perkins homered in the second as Milwaukee posted a three-run second inning . William Conteras singled home two in the inning as well.

Miley, who threw a no-hitter when he pitched for the Reds in 2021, was limited to 52 pitches and allowed just one run and a hit. Bryse Wilson (1-0) got the win, as he pitched the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz knocked a solo homer into the left field stands in the fifth inning, giving him hits in 11 of 12 games this season. De La Cruz has also reached base in 17 consecutive games dating back to Sept. 26.

Jackson Chourio also had two RBIs for Milwaukee.

The game initially was delayed 1:50 due to heavy rain.

The Reds will try to even the four-game series when they send right-hander Nick Martinez (0-0, 7.20 ERA) against Brewers right-hander Freddy Peralta (1-0, 3.09) on Thursday.
