Brown's career-high 27 lifts Ohio over Chippewas

ATHENS – Led by a career-high 27 points from Miles Brown, the Ohio Bobcats men's team (10-9, 2-4 MAC) defeated the Central Michigan Chippewas (7-12, 2-4 MAC), 96-68, Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center.


Brown led the Bobcats with his career-high 27 points, shooting 9-of-12 from the field, while hitting a career-high six threes. He also grabbed five rebounds and was 3-of-4 from the line.


Dwight Wilson III added 12 points and eight rebounds, while Jaylin Hunter scored 12 points. Freshman guard AJ Brown bounced back with 11 points and four rebounds.


Overall, Ohio shot 52 percent from the field, hit 15 from three point land and were 15-of-21 from the line. Central Michigan shot 44 percent from the field, 28 percent from three and was 17-of-25 from the line.


The Bobcats forced 15 CMU turnovers and scored 26 points off them.


From the opening tip-off, Ohio took control of the game, outscoring the Chippewas 15-4.


During the scoring run, Brown would drain two three-pointers and added a layup off a steal. Wilson chipped in with a huge dunk to get the Bobcats going as well.


Out of the first media timeout, Central cut the lead down to seven, but Brown would bury his third trifecta of the game to make the score 18-8 with 11:58 left in the first half.


After CMU cut the Bobcats' lead to seven, layups from freshman guard Elmore James (Cleveland, Ohio) and Miles Brown increased Ohio's lead back to nine, before Miles Brown's fourth three of the half, put Ohio up 26-14, forcing CMU to burn a 30 second timeout with 8:49 left in the half. Out of the timeout, CMU responded with a layup and a free throw, however AJ Brown matched it with a jumper, giving Ohio a 28-17 lead with 7:52 remaining in the half. After Hunter hit two free throws out of the timeout, another jumper from Miles Brown gave Ohio a 15-point lead


Later in the half, the Bobcats would increase their lead when Brown converted his fifth three of the half and DeVon Baker would hit from down town as well to put Ohio up 38-19 with 5:34 remaining before halftime.


Ohio would close out the first half scoring with a couple free throws from AJ Clayton and a jumper from Elmore James to give the Bobcats a 52-31 lead going into the half.


The Bobcats forced Central into seven turnovers, scoring 16 points off them. Ohio only committed one turnover in the half.


A layup from Wilson and a three from Hunter to put the Bobcats up 26 early in the second half.


Ben Roderick and AJ Brown would later add three-pointers each to give the Bobcats a 63-36 lead going into the first media timeout.


Central would try to cut into the lead over the next 10 minutes, but Brown would hit his sixth three of the day put the Bobcats up 24 and Ohio cruised to a 96-68 victory.


Brian Taylor led all scorers for Central with 27 points and 11 rebounds, followed by Markus Harding with 16 points.


Ohio will be at home again on Tuesday, Jan. 24 when they host the Western Michigan Broncos. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
