Bruins clinch Presidents' Trophy, sweep season series with Jackets

BOSTON — David Pastrnak netted his 53rd goal of the season 41 seconds into overtime to give the Boston Bruins a 2-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night.

The win also wrapped up the Presidents’ Trophy for the Bruins who earned their franchise-record 58th victory.

The Presidents’ Trophy goes to the NHL regular-season points leader. Boston broke a tie with the 1970-71 team for the franchise victory mark and moved four away from tying the NHL record of 62 set by Detroit in 1995-96 and matched by Tampa Bay in 2018-19.

Tyler Bertuzzi tied the game on a power-play goal in the second period and Linus Ullmark made 25 saves to help the Bruins notch their eighth win in the last nine games.

Jack Roslovic scored the lone goal for Columbus. He tipped Liam Foudy’s pass just past Ullmark’s outstretched left skate at 8:08 of the first to give the Jackets the lead.

Michael Hutchinson stopped 29 shots as the Blue Jackets have now lost six of eight.

Bertuzzi tying goal came when he redirected Pavel Zacha’s pass between Hutchinson’s pads.

In overtime, Hampus Lindholm sent a pass to Pastrnak for the backhand winner.

Blue Jackets return home to face the Florida Panthers on Saturday night.
