COLUMBUS — Ohio State head coach Ryan Day announced on Tuesday that running back Miyan Williams will be missing the rest of the 2023 season after undergoing surgery.
Day did not give any specifics on the injury, but said Williams had a procedure done and would not play the rest of the season.
"I feel really bad for Miyan," Day said. "That's a big hit for that room and our team, but Tony [Alford has] done a great job building depth in that room."
Williams did not play against Wisconsin due to his injury. During the 2022 season, he led the Buckeyes in both rushing yards and rushing touchdowns.
Ohio State has dealt with injury issues for most of this season between Williams and TreVeyon Henderson. The only running back to avoid injury and appear in all eight games this season has been Chip Trayanum.
Henderson returned last weekend against Wisconsin after missing nearly a month of action from an injury sustained in the Notre Dame game. Henderson rushed for 162 yards and a touchdown in his return.
For most of the season, it's been a "running back by committee" with Henderson getting 68 carries, Trayanum with 66 and Williams with 49.
With a big game against Michigan looming over the horizon, the team can't afford many other injuries to its running backs going forward.
