Buckeyes pummel Spartans 38-3

COLUMBUS — Marvin Harrison Jr. continued to build a case for being in the Heisman Trophy discussion with another monster game and help third-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes maul Michigan State 38-3 on Saturday night.

Harrison Jr. was the headliner all evening, as he caught two of Kyle McCord’s three touchdown passes and ran for another score. He finished with seven receptions for 149 yards.

"I can't really quantify how impactful he is to this offense," McCord said, “I'm spoiled. There's no other way to put it.”

McCord completed 24 of 31 passes for a career-high 335 yards before being relieved in the fourth quarter. Tight end Cade Stover tied a career high with seven catches for 79 yards as the Buckeyes piled up 530 yards of offense.

Ohio State (10-0, 7-0 Big Ten, No. 1 CFP) came out firing on all cylinders, overwhelmeing the Spartans (3-7, 1-6) with touchdowns on five of their six first-half possessions.

Meanwhile, Ohio State's defense limited Michigan State to 182 total yards and held them to 2 of 14 on third down conversions — despite missing several key players due to injuries.

Harrison sparked Ohio State's dominant peformance with his first rushing touchdown of his career. He went in motion from the left side, took a pitch and went 19 yards around the right end for the score.

After Michigan State missed field-goal on their next possession, Harrison struck again. This time he caught a 26-yard pass that McCord dropped over his shoulder in the back corner of the end zone to make it 14-0.

Harrison would haul in a 9-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter. TreVeyon Henderson ran one in from 9 yards out, and Stover had an 18-yard touchdown grab to give the Buckeyes a 35-3 lead at the break.

Jayden Fielding scored the only points of the second half, kicking a 36-yard field goal with 11:56 left in the third quarter to finalize the score.

Harrison's performance took him over 1,000 yards receiving on the season, making the first receiver in Ohio State history with 1,000 yards receiving in two seasons. He had 1,263 in 2022 and has 1,063 so far this season.

Ohio State will host Minnesota next Saturday as they gear up for their showdown with Michigan on Nov. 25.
