NEWARK, Del. — AJ Clayton scored a career-high 23 points as the Ohio Bobcats beat the Delaware 95-76 on Wednesday night, snapping the Fightin' Blue Hens' five-game winning streak.
Delaware tried to cut into the Bobcat lead with back-to-back layups to make it a 36-22, but a three from freshman guard Elmore James put Ohio back up by 17. The Blue Hens would answer with a 7-0 run, chipping Ohio's lead down to 10.
The Blue Hens would close the gap to nine with 3:03 remaining in the half, but the Bobcats would get three-point goals from Miles Brown and Jaylin Hunter to spark a 10-0 run to end the half. Senior Ben Roderick and Dwight Wilson III would also add layups during the run to give Ohio a 51-34 lead going into the half.
In the second half, Delaware would continue to try and climb back, cutting Ohio's lead to 11. But free throws from Wilson III and four more from Clayton put the Bobcats back up by 17 with 5:38 remaining in the game.
Clayton would later add a layup and two free throws, and Hunter would score a bucket to give the Bobcats a 22-point lead with 2:25 remaining.
Clayton added six rebounds for the Bobcats (7-5). Dwight Wilson earned a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. AJ Brown went 5 of 9 from the field and 2 for 3 from the line to finish with 14 points.
The Fightin' Blue Hens (8-5) were led by Jameer Nelson Jr., who dropped 20 points, six rebounds and three steals. Ebby Asamoah added 17 points and Jyare Davis had 13 points and seven assists.
