College Football: What we know after Conference Championship weekend

With the last of the conference title games wrapping up, we wanted to share some observations from another exciting week of college football.

Southern Cal falters, but it was all too familiar for some

Despite the fact the Trojans lost to Utah earlier in the season, many believed USC was the better team overall and would prevail to make the playoffs. However, it seems the Utah was just plain better in all facets of the game.

And some of that blame is being pointed towards USC's head coach Lincoln Riley.

Riley has a reputation from his time in Oklahoma of being unable to get his teams over the finish line and falling short of expectations. Friday night's loss didn't help change that image for a USC faithful that have been waiting for the program to return to the level of dominance seen under Pete Carroll.

But hey, give credit to Utah. The Utes have been the top team in the conference two straight years now and look to be a contender in the PAC12 for a while.

TCU should be playoff bound

Despite losing to Kansas State, the Horned Frogs deserve a spot in the final four.

When you look at their Big 12 opponents, you could almost argue that it's almost more challenging than an ACC or Big 10 schedule. For instance, Oklahoma State or Kansas State were more than capable of winning the Big 10 West Division or Coastal Division of the ACC.

And when you look at the remaining list of teams vying to get in, it's really no comparison.

Despite losing by such slim margins, Alabama still loss those games. So they didn't get things done when they had the chance.

Same can be said for Tennessee. Their offense could keep pace with any of the tops teams. However, like the Tide, they loss when it matter and quarterback Hendon Hooker's injury really changes the dynamics of that team.

While all signs seem to point toward TCU making the final cut anyways. It felt necessary to declare this point of view.
