College Football: What we know after week 5

The collapse came "Sooner" than later

After a disappointing home loss to Kansas State last week, the Oklahoma Sooners went on the road and got absolutely clobbered by TCU, 55-24.

The loss effectively puts an end to any hopes of a college football playoff appearance as the Sooners now are saddled with two conference losses now.

There were a lot of high hopes in Norman, but it looks like it will have to wait another year.

The Big Ten West is still a mess

Another week goes by and the west division of the Big Ten still has not made clear who the top team could be.

Minnesota became another victim of Purdue's annual upset special, by losing at home 20-10. Wisconsin suffered another horrendous loss at home to Illinois, causing more Badger fans to begin questioning Paul Chryst's future. And despite a tough effort, Iowa's offense was still ineffective as they fell at home to Michigan.

But strangely enough, every team has at least one loss in the league, leaving the door wide open for anyone to win this one.

So now it appears next week's Iowa-Illinois contest has all the sudden became a pivotal game for both programs.

Preseason hype isn't translating for the Redhawks

The Redhawks were a preseason favorite to win the East Division but things aren't looking so good right now.

A late touchdown pass gave the Buffalo Bulls an upset win on Saturday and the top spot in the division.

While Miami was able to notch a big non-conference win over Northwestern the week before, the Redhawks were fairly underwhelming in their two other losses to Kentucky and Cincinnati.

Miami still has time to turn this around, but some their bigger games are looming later in the season, including their rivalry game with an Ohio Bobcats team that is capable of upsetting them.
