AID — Tanner Corn fanned 10 batters on the mound and went 2 for 4 at the plate, as the Symmes Valley Vikings defeated the Northwest Mohawks 10-0 in a Southern Ohio Conference game on Monday.
Corn went the full six innings for the Vikings, giving up just four hits and allowing two walks.
Eight different batter recorded hits for Symmes Valley. Corn, Tanner Thompson, and Aydan Taylor all drove in two runs each. Mason Stevenson had the other RBI.
Northwest threatened in the top of the first, as Logan Shepherd reached first on a fielders' choice and then stole second. But Corn halted the threat by striking out the next two batters to end the top half of the inning.
In the bottom of the inning, the Vikings (6-5, 3-1 SOC) jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Luke Niece drew a walk and stole second, and later scored when Corn doubled to left field. Taylor would reach first via an error and Corn would score.
Taylor followed up with two stolen bases before reaching home on a passed ball.
Corn retired six-straight Mohawk batters in the second and third, as Symmes Valley held a 5-0 lead after three.
Northwest managed to break up Corn's no-hitter in the top of the fourth, when Gavin Powell singled into left field.
The Vikings got another run in the fourth, as Jones doubled to center and Taylor drove him in on a single.
In the sixth inning, the Vikings scored four more to reach the 10-run rule for the win. Thompson got the honors, belting a double into right that brought home Jones and Corn.
Shepherd pitched four innings for Northwest, giving up three earned runs and striking out four in the losing effort. Reece Lute, Drew Detwiller, and Peyton Wolfe had the other three hits for the Mohawks.
