Cyclones explode for 5 goals in 2nd, win 6-4

TOLEDO — The Cincinnati Cyclones scored five goals in the second period to beat the Toledo Walleye 6-4 on Sunday.

Cincinnati would get on the board first when Phil Lagunov took the puck through center ice and carried it into the Toledo zone behind the net. John Passolt would skate to the top of the cease and Ladunov would feed the puck to Passolt who buried the puck into the net for the 1-0 lead.

The Cyclones would go on to rattle off five more goals to build up a 6-0 lead after two periods.

In a span of two-minute span, Louie Caporusso (13) netted a goal, Zack Andrusiak (10) added a wrister shortly after, and Passolt (11) found the back of the net again to give the Cyclones a 4-0 edge.

Passolt now has 11 goals on the season, with seven coming against Toledo.

Toledo would make a change at goaltender, but it would make little difference, as Patrick Polino scored off a one-timer off a pass by Matt McLeod and Matt Berry scored against his former team on a buzzer-beater to give Cincinnati a 6-0 lead after two periods.

The Walleye would make a comeback in the final frame, with two goal from Brandon Hawkins and one a-piece from Trenton Bliss and Gordie Green to make it 6-4.

But the Cyclones would hold off the rally and secure the win.

Beck Warm stopped 30 shots in the win.

Sebastian Cossa made nine saves on 11 shots in relief for John Lethemon, but took the loss.

The two teams will square off again on Wednesday night as Cincinnati will play host this time at Heritage Bank Center.
