CINCINNATI -- Matej Pekar netted the game-winning goal in the shootout to lift the Cincinnati Cyclones to a 5-4 win over the Toledo Walleye in front of 8.327 fans on Saturday night.
The first period saw both teams accumulate 26 minutes in penalties. Sean Allen and Justin Vaive drew huge roars from the hometown crowd as they dropped the gloves during the early exchanges.
The Cyclones used three power play goals to claim the lead after one period. Yushioroh Hirano accounted for the first two scores and Zack Andrusiak blasted his 15th goal of the season to give Cincinnati a 3-2 lead.
Toledo scored two consecutive power play goals from Brandon Hawkins and Gordie Green to grab a 4-3 lead with nearly 15 minutes remaining in regulation. f
But the Walleye's lead wouldn't last for long as Lincoln Griffin evened the score at the 6:51 mark of the third period.
After a scoreless overtime, the teams went to the shootout.
After both Hirano and Hawkins scored in the opening round, the game would get decided in the fourth round, as Pekar slid a puck by Sebastian Cossa for the advantage.
Beck Warm then turned aside Green's attempt to keep the game going and secured the win for the Cylones.
Warm stopped 24 shots as he notched his 17th win of the season. Cossa made 31 saves in the loss.
