
LUCASVILLE — To put it in Math teacher terms, Abbie Deeds was responsible for 83 percent to the out.
Deeds struck out 15 of the 18 outs as she threw a 3-hitter and the Coal Grove Lady Hornets beat the Lucasville Valley Lady Indians 5-1 on Monday.
In 6 innings, Deeds walked just 3 and the only run was earned.
The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when Coal Grove (2-2) got 3 runs in the top of the inning.
Rylee Black singled and scored when Kendall Taylor singled and went to third on an error.
An out later, Braelie Hitchcock was safe on an error as Taylor scored.
Hitchcock scored and came home on a hit by Kasey Vanderhoof.
Braxtyn Holbrook led off the bottom of the inning with a home run for the Lady Indians’ lone run.
The lead went to 4-1 in the fifth single by Taylor, Rylee Bare and Hitchcock.
Coal Grove’s final run scored in the sixth on back-to-back doubles by Vanderhoof and Deeds.
The Lady Hornets had 9 hits as Vanderhoof went 2-3 with a double and RBI, Taylor was 2-3 and Hitchcock was 1-2 with a pair of RBI.
Valley fell to 2-4.
