Deeds, Lady Hornets pick up OVC win over Lady Pointers

COAL GROVE — Abbie Deeds pitched a 2-hitter and got plenty of support from the offense including herself.


Deeds not only fired a 2-hitter with 13 strikeouts and just one walk, she went 3-3 with 4 runs batted in including 2 doubles as the Coal Grove Lady Hornets rolled to a 14-1 run rule win over the South Point Lady Pointers on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.


Coal Grove (5-4, 3-0) had plenty of hitters as Rylee Black went 2-4, Tayler Endlich 1-1 with a double and 2- RBI, Kassidy Travis was 1-1 with an RBI, Izzy Kitts 1-2 with 3 RBI, Shay Collins 1-3, Mia Haynes 1-3 with a double, and Kendall Taylor 2-3 and 2 RBI.

South Point (3-5, 0-3) only managed 2 hits as Alli Stidham and Maddens each went 1-2,

The Lady Hornets got all the runs they really needed by taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.


Deeds was hit by a pitch leading off, Collins reached on an error and Izzy Kitts singled to drive home both runners.


Coal Grove opened up a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the second.


Taylor singled with one out, Travis walked and Deeds doubled them home. Deeds stole third and scored on a throwing error.


Collins singled, stole second, took third on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly by Izzy Kitts.


South Point (3-5, 3-0) got its lone run in the top of the third when Stidham got a 2-out single, went to third on a passed ball and scored on an error


Coal Grove got the run back in the bottom of the inning as Haynes doubled and Deeds singled her home.


Coal Grove put the game away with 7 runs in the bottom of the fourth.


Kitts reached on an error, Black singled and both moved up on a ground out. Kitts scored on a wild pitch. Kasey Vanderhoof walked and the runners moved up on a passed ball. Taylor then singled as 2 runs scored.


Taylor moved up on a wild pitch and scored on a hit by Travis. Deeds then doubled to score Travis, Collins walked and Endlich doubled to score Collins and courtesy runner Brianna Malone.


Coal Grove hosts Russell, Ky., on Tuesday, and Fairland on Wednesday and Chesapeake on Friday.
