Division 5, Region 19 Finals

Barnesville 19, Columbus Academy 17

BARNESVILLE — After surrendering a 13-point lead to trail at haltime, the Barnesville Shamrocks would score on their second play of the second half and hang on to advance in the Division 5 playoffs with a 19-17 win over the Columbus Academy Vikings

Running back Greyson Thomas had a 27-yard burst to give Columbus Academy a 14-13 lead at the half.

The Shamrocks (12-0) reached into their bag of tricks and pulled out the "Snake in the Grass" play. On a second-and-10, Luke Detling lined up right by the Barnesville bench — without a single Viking defender noticing — and quarterback Casey Carpenter floated a pass out to his wide open receiver for a 63-yard touchdown and give the Shamrocks a 19-14 lead with 8:42 left in the third quarter.

The Vikings responded with 40-yard field goal from Abe Ulbrich that inched over the cross bar to make it 19-17 after three quarters.

Columbus Academy (10-2) came up with an interception to halt a Barnesville drive that went deep into Viking territory.

Thomas would rip off a 57-yard run on the ensuing play to flip the field and put the Vikings in scoring position.

Barnesville's defense would hold and force a field goal attempt on fourth down.

Ulbirch's 28-yard attempt would sail wide-right with 3:09 remaining and the Shamrocks would run the clock out to get the win.

The Shamrocks will face the No. 7 seed Wheelersburg Pirates in the region semifinals on Friday Nov. 10 at Hamilton Township High School.

Harvest Prep 24, West Muskingum 0

CANAL WINCHESTER — Harvest Prep would get four rushing scores and the defense would shut down West Muskingum's offense, as the Warriors would get a 24-0 win on Friday night and advance to the Division 5 Region 19 semifinals.

West Muskingum (10-2) would convert a 4th-and-12 on their opening drive with a 23-yard pass from Jake Anton to Connor Hill to get to the Warrior 15. But Harvest Prep's defense would stop the Tornadoes on four-straight plays to force a turnover on downs.

That would be the closest the Tornadoes would get to the end zone the rest of the night.

In the second quarter, Warriors would get a golden opportunity, recovering a fumble by West Muskingum's punter to set up shop at the Tornado 20.

Two plays later, quarterback E.J. Pierce would fake a handoff and break three tackles on his way into the end zone to give Harvest Prep a 6-0 lead with 9:02 remaining before halftime.

Harvest Prep (11-1) would pull away in the second half beginning with a 61-yard touchdown scamper from Bre'Lyn Porter on a fourth-and-one to extend their lead to 12-0. Porter would later add a second score in the fourth quarter to put polish off the win.

Harvest Prep will play the top-seeded Ironton Fighting Tigers on Friday Nov. 10 at Athens High School.
