PROCTORVILLE — When it comes to the Ohio Valley Conference co-leaders, the Rock Hill Redmen are trying scare tactics.
The Redmen lost 44-43 in the final seconds to Chesapeake for a major scare. However, their tactics only proved to startle Fairland on Friday as the Dragons fell behind early but rallied to take a 58-43 win.
Rock Hill took a surprising 18-17 first quarter lead as Rylan Barker hit three 3-pointers and Keelan Davidson scored 4 points.
Fairland (13-1, 8-0) used three 3-pointers by Cliff Fransen, 5 points including a trey from Keegan Smith, and a 3-pointer by Trevor Lochow to stay close.
But the Dragons were unfazed in the second quarter as they rallied to take a 34-25 halftime lead.
Fransen had another 3-pointer as he scored 8 points and Smith scored 5 points again including a 3-pointer.
Yaden Bailey hit a 3-pointer while Izaak Cox and Kelan Davidson had baskets for the Redmen (4-8, 1-6).
The Redmen gave their scare tactics one more try as they outscored the Dragons 11-9 in the third quarter to trail 43-36.
Barker hit another 3-pointer as he scored 5 points and Stephen Ison added a trifecta.
But Fairland took charge and outscored the Redmen 15-7 in the fourth quarter as Brody Buchanan scored 7 points including a triple while Fransen was 2 of 2 at the line and Lochow 2 of 4.
Fransen finished with 21 points and 6 rebounds for the Dragons. Buchanan had 17 points with 4 assists.
Barker scored 14 points and Bailey added 10 for Rock Hill. Davidson had 9 rebounds while Cox had 5 rebounds and 5 steals.
