PROCTORVILLE — Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Except maybe for the Fairland Dragons.
After seeing their 17-game winning streak against arch-rival Chesapeake end on Tuesday, the Dragons took out their frustrations on Friday with a 68-36 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Coal Grove Hornets.
The Dragons (7-4, 4-2) came out steaming in the first quarter as they outscored the Hornets 23-2.
Brody Buchanan hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 10 points, Chase Allen had 6 points and Keegan Smith hit a triple and scored 5 points in the Dragons’ offensive explosion.
The lead grew to 44-12 at the half as Buchanan had 7 points and Smith hit another trifecta and scored 6 points.
Owen Johnson hit a trey and scored 9 of the Hornets’ 10 points in the quarter.
Smith continued his stellar night with another 3-pointer as he scored 7 points in the third quarter. Allen had 4 points and Trevor Lochow hit a 3-pointer.
Johnson again led Coal Grove (2-10, 1-5) as he scored 8 of their 14 points and it was 58-26.
Cliff Fransen, Lochow and Smith all hit 3-pointers in the fourth quarter for Fairland.
Johnson scored 7 of Coal Grove’s 10 points.
Smith had his best all-around game as he led the Dragons with 21 points to go with 4 rebounds and an assist.
Buchanan scored 17 points and he 3 rebounds and 2 assists, Allen 14 points and Will Davis 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
Johnson scored a game-high 26 points and had 4 rebounds for the Hornets.
