Duke bests Buckeyes in ACC/Big 10 Challenge

DURHAM, N.C. — Kyle Filipowski scored 16 points, including a crucial three-point play late in the game to help the 17th-ranked Duke Blue Devils take down the No. 25 Ohio State Buckeyes 81-72 on Wednesday night in the final game of the ACC.Big Ten Challenge.

The Blue Devils (7-2) used a strong run in the latter part of the first half to hold a 10-point lead at the half.

On the flip side, the Buckeyes struggled in the final 9 minutes of the first half, managing just two baskets in the final 8:38 and committed seven turnovers. The Buckeyes' miscues helped Duke to stretch out their lead. The Blue Devils scored 18 points off turnovers to get to a 39-29 halftime lead.

However, the Buckeyes (5-2) wouldn't go away, as they mount repeated pushes to cut into the Duke lead. But Blue Devils would tenaciously counter every Buckeye run.

Duke extended their lead to 13 to begin the second half, but Ohio State cut it to six eight times and down to five on three occasions. The final time came when Sean McNeil nailed a 3-pointer from the left wing to cut Duke's lead to 72-67 with 3:06 left in the game.

But Filipowski and the Blue Devils would answer again like they had all night. The 7-footer converted a spinning basket through contact from Justice Sueing, and his free throw pushed the lead back to eight.

Ohio State would never get that close again for the remainder of the game.

Jeremy Roach added 13 points in the winning effort. Duke went 18 of 20 from the foul line in the second half and 26 of 30 for the game.

Ohio State’s Zed Key turned in his second straight big game against Duke. He finished the night with 21 points, with 17 of those coming in the second half, to go along with his eight rebounds.
