ESPN blacked out amid Disney-Spectrum dispute

Spectrum customers may be without ESPN programming for the foreseeable future as all ESPN channels went dark amid a distribution rights disagreement between Disney and Spectrum.

On Thursday evening, college football fans hoping to watch the game between Florida and No. 14 Utah on Thursday, were greeted with a black screen on their various TVs and devices.

The dispute between Spectrum and Disney is over access fees for the former to carry its Disney-owned channels, which include ESPN, ESPN2 and conference-specific sites such as the SEC Network.

And like many of these disputes, it comes down to money. The ongoing disputes over access fees, extended into the 2023 college football season and has resulted in ESPN's absence from Spectrum cable subscriptions.

Disney and Charter-owned Spectrum had previously reached a deal in 2019 on a "multi-year deal" for a "comprehensive distribution agreement." However, it seems the deal has ran its course.

So for now, Spectrum fans will be unable to watch any ESPN programming via their normal service.
