Flyers cruise past Western, 6-1

LATHAM — The St. Joseph Flyers take their Catholic faith seriously. On Thursday during their Southern Ohio Conference game, they decided to Neal.

Wesley Neal pulled off a hat trick as he scored 3 goals and also had a pair of assists as the Flyers beat the Western Indians 6-1.

The Flyers (4-0, 1-0) defense was strong as they allowed Western to take just 8 total shots and 5 were on goal. Goalkeeper Beckham Waginger played 60 of the 80 minutes and had 4 saves and no goals allowed.

It didn’t take long for the Flyers to get on the scoreboard as Neal drilled a header into the net on an assist from Texas Jack Whaley shot a crossing pass from the right side to Neal for his second goal at the 27:42 mark.

Keeping it all in the family, Landon Rowe drilled the back of the net for a goal as he took a crossing pass from his sister Sophia Rowe from the left side.

Carson Lyons scored the next goal with 5:45 on the clock as he took a touch pass from — you guessed it — Neal.

To close out the half, Neal did the work himself with an unassisted dribble drive and drilled the ball into the left side of the net past the outstretched arms of the goalkeeper and it was 5-0 with 4:43 left in the half.

St. Joseph had just one goal in the second half as the backups played most of the time.

Eli Whaley scored the Flyers’ goal as Neal got his second assist.

Western avoided a shutout as Samuele Cattaneo first a shot into the net for the lone goal

The Flyers will host New Boston next Thursday in an SOC game.
