IRONTON — The St. Joseph Flyers were like the weather. They started cold and slow.
But after falling behind in the top of the first inning, the Flyers got going and rolled to a 14-2 run rule win over the Tolsia Rebels in the season opener on Saturday.
Tolsia went up 2-0 in the top of the first inning Luke Williamson had a double and scored on a hit by Brody Caudill.
Caudill stole second, went to third on a ground out and scored on.a wild pitch.
The Flyers got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Landon Rowe walked, stole second and third and came home on a passed ball.
St. Joseph rallied for 6 runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead for good.
Jake Stephens walked, Carson Lyons was hit by a pitch, Carson Williams, Darryn Harvey and Rowe all walked and Brady Medinger singled.
Evan Balestra hit into a fielder’s choice for a run, Drew Brown hit a sacrifice fly and a run scored on an error.
The Flyers got 5 runs in the third on 4 walks, Harvey’s RBI single and Stephens’ 2-run hit.
The final 2 runs scored in the fourth on 2 walks, an error and RBI singles by Mason Weber and Blake Medinger.
Brown went 4 innings for the win as he gave up the only 2 Tolsia hits. He struck out 7 and walked just one. Balestra pitched a perfect fifth to close out the win.
