Flyers Storm Back In 2nd Half To Cage Tigers

IRONTON OK, you can have the first half but we’re going to take the second half.


And then some.


Trailing by 4 points at halftime, the St. Joseph Flyers outscored the New Boston Tigers by 13 points in the second half and rallied for a 56-47 Southern Ohio Conference 1 win on Tuesday.


Landon Rowe had 7 points including a 3-pointer and Beckham Waginger scored 4 points and the game was tied at 13-all in the first quarter.


Wyatt McNeil scored 7 points including a 3-pointer to lead the Tigers.


New Boston took a 27-23 halftime lead as Levigh Cooper hit a pair of 3-pointers while Ian Spiess and McNeal had one trey each.


Wesley Neal scored 8 of the Flyers 10 points including a 3-pointer.


St. Joseph (9-5, 4-1) rallied in the third quarter to take a 39-8 lead as Zane Dressel made a trifecta and scored 7 points while Neal added 5 points.



Five different players scored for New Boston.


In the fourth quarter, the Flyers outscored the Tigers 17-9 and pulled away to the win.


The Flyers converted 7 of 7 from the foul line as Waginger went 3 of 3 and scored 5 points. Dressel had 4 points including 2 of 2 at the line and Rowe also scored 4. points.


McNeil, Spiess and Cooper all hit 3-pointers for the Tigers in the quarter.


Neal led the Flyers with 17 points while Rowe had a strong all-around game with 13 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.


Beckham Waginger had a breakout game as the freshman scored 11 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and had a pair of steals. Dressel also scored 11 points and had 4 rebounds.


McNeil scored 15 points while Spiess and Cooper scored 11 each for New Boston (3-12, 2-3).
