Just two weeks remain in the 2024 regular season and we still got a long way to go it seems.
The playoff picture is beginning to take shape and teams are learning where their possible finish in the computer rankings will be.
In the meantime, here's a couple news and notes from last weekend to keep up on around the world of high school football
Bronx Carpenter passed his way into the record books at Symmes Valley last Friday night. The freshman quarterback tossed 6 touchdown passes to set a single-game record — and more importantly — helped the Vikings to a win over the East Tartans.
The Barnesville Shamrocks continued their streak of 34-straight regular season wins on Friday with a 44-14 rout of Monroe Central. The Shamrocks built up a 30-0 lead behind a 265-yard rushing performance by sophomore TB Trey Toliver and 3 touchdown passes from senior QB Casey Carpenter. Despite amassing 339 yards of offense and converting 18 first downs, the Seminoles were turned away three times in the red zone. The Shamrocks have not held opponents scoreless in 14-straight quarters.
The Malvern Hornets had to battle back from behind twice last Friday night to beat the Newcomerstown Trojans in a big Inter-Valley Conference North matchup. Late in the fourth, Newcomerstown's Dom Singer stunned the Hornets with a 63-yard TD run on fourth-and-1 to put the Trojans back ahead 28-24. Malvern responded with a long drive that culminated with a TD run by Julius Gore to put the Hornets ahead for good with 3:43 left. Malvern recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff and Jared Witherow threw a 35-yard TD pass moments later to seal the win. The loss for the Trojans might have closed out any hopes of a top 4 finished in Region 23. The win clinched a playoff berth for Malvern and a possible top 5 finish in Region 25.
