We're down to the final week of regular season high school football.
And while we're sad that the regular season is coming to an end, we're equally excited to see what the second season has in store for us.
But before we talk about playoffs, here's some a few news and notes.
Last Friday night, Rock Hill's Anthony Stamper ran his way into the record books during the Redmen's 60-49 shootout win over Chesapeake. The senior RB surpassed both the single-season rushing and single-season touchdown marks during the game. On the year, Stamper has 1398 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns on the ground . He can add to those numbers again this coming Friday at agaisnt Coal Grove.
In a battle of Region 18 contenders, the Oak Harbor Rockets defeated the Eastwood Eagles 31-27. The win also clinched the Rockets third-straight Northern Buckeye Conference title. Trailing by four with 4:08 left to play, the Rockets marched down the field behind some bigs plays to regain the lead. One of those plays was a 42-yard catch by Tyler Thompson that made the crowd hold its breath. The home side thought it was intercepted until the senior WR stood up holding the ball at the 14. Then moments later, QB Mike LaLonde scored on an 8-yard run with 1:34 left to play to give Oak Harbor the lead. Eastwood drove down to the Rockets 4, but a pass attempt on the final play fell incomplete.
There will be two key matchups to watch for in Region 24 this coming Friday. The first will be between two of the top teams in the region, No. 3 Cincinnati Country Day and 5th-seeded St. Bernard-Elmwood Place. The other will be top-ranked Coldwater taking on the No. 1 team in Division VII, Marion Local, in a battle of undefeateds and the game will also decide the Midwest Athletic Conference championship. Both games will serve as good indicators of how good the top teams are in the region as the playoffs kick off next weekend.
