WILLOW WOOD — Even though the Symmes Valley Vikings suited up in black and white, they still got the win for the scarlet and grey.
The Symmes Valley Vikings had four players score double digits, built up an early first half lead, and routed the Sciotoville East Tartans 76-38 on Friday night in the annual Waterloo Wonders Night game.
Ethan Smith led the Vikings offensively, scoring 27 points. Bronx Carpenter added 13 points, and Gradee Holland and Tanner Corn had 12 apiece.
On the defensive end, the Vikings forced 21 turnovers — including 15 steals.
Symmes Valley also controlled the glass, out-rebounding the Tartans 34-24.
Carpenter got the Vikings' offense going early in the first period, burying a trio of 3-pointers to give Symmes Valley a 17-4 advantage.
The Vikings would take a commanding 24-9 lead after one period and continue to pour it on in the second.
Smith would take over on the offensive end during the second frame, scoring 13 points. The senior guard would score on a step-around layup on a drive and later added a jumper from just inside the 3-point arc to help build the Vikings lead up to 31-9 with 6:30 remaining in the first half.
Later in the period, Corn swished an 18-footer off an inbound pass from Asher Maynard to stretch the lead out to 39-17.
The Vikings would head into the locker room with a 48-23 lead.
Smith would add 8 more points to his total in the third, Holland would be right behind him with 6 points to give Symmes Valley a 68-36 lead.
Key Roberts would score 5 points off the bench in the fourth period and Andy Strow would score 2 as the Vikings coasted their way to a win.
The Tartans were led by Keegan Barker with 12 points and 5 rebounds. Amani Brown chipped in 8 points and 6 assists.
