Hankins, Ironton Edge Out Lady Panthers; Ball Scores 1,000th Point

IRONTON It was a trade-off the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers would be glad to take any day.


Chesapeake senior guard Kate Ball reached a milestone as she scored the 1,000th point of her career on Saturday, but the Lady Fighting Tigers still got the win as they edged the Lady Panthers 40-35 in an Ohio Valley Conference game.


Ball needed 4 points entering the game and hit a 3-pointer midway through the first quarter. She followed that with a layup at 1:43 mark on the clock.


Lola Hankins scored 6 points and Peyton Deer got all 5 of her points including a 3-pointer as Ironton grabbed a 15-9 first quarter lead.


Ball had 5 points with her 3-pointer and basket and Abbey Isaacs got the other 4 points for Chesapeake in the quarter.


The Lady Panthers cut the deficit to 21-17 at the half as Isaacs scored 6 points and Ball added a basket.


Addison Neal, Jolee Hankins and Emerson White all had baskets for Ironton’s total.


The Lady Panthers cut the lead to just 28-27 at the end of the third quarter as Ball hit another 3-pointer and 2 for shots while Clairynn Romans and Isaacs had baskets and Erin Hicks sank a foul shot.


Lola Hankins hit a triple and scored 5 points and sister Jolee Hankins added a basket for the Lady Tigers in the quarter.


Ironton outscored Chesapeake 12-8 in the fourth quarter to hang on for the win.


White drilled a 3-pointer and sank a free throw, Jolee Hankins had 4 points and Lola Hankins got 4 points including 2-of-4 at the foul line.


Isaacs scored 4 points with Chloe Parrott and Sara Dillon getting baskets to account for Chesapeake’s scoring in the quarter.


Lola Hankins led Ironton (4-5, 2-3) with 15 points. White and Jolee Hankins netted 8 each.


Isaacs had a game-high 16 points for Chesapeake (5–3, 2-3) while Ball finished the game with 12 points.
