Hartline promoted to Offensive Coordinator

COLUMBUS — Ohio State football coach Ryan Day announced on Friday that receivers coach Brian Hartline would be promoted to offensive coordinator.

The six-year member of the Buckeyes coaching staff replaces Kevin Wilson, who left to become the head coach at Tulsa. Hartline, 36, played at Ohio State and had a seven-year stint in the NFL. He served as passing game coordinator prior for the 2022 season.

Keenan Bailey, who is entering his eighth season with the Buckeyes, was promoted to tight ends coach. He was a special teams assistant this past season.

Offensive line coach Justin Frye was named run game coordinator.

Ohio State might be needing to replace the quarterback position, as two-year starter C.J. Stroud is expected to enter the NFL draft, although he hasn't yet made a public announcement.

Backups Kyle McCord and Devin Brown are expected to compete for the starting quarterback job this spring.

Both starting offensive tackles, All-American Paris Johnson Jr. and Dawand Jones, and center Luke Wypler also will leave to enter the draft.

Guard Matt Jones announced that he will be returning to Columbus for a sixth year, giving the Buckeyes two returning starters on the offensive line. Donovan Jackson is the other returning lineman.

Tight end Cade Stover and receiver/running back Xavier Johnson also plan to return for 2023.

Running back Mayan Williams, who battled a leg injury for part of last season, previously announced that he will return. If TreVeyon Henderson's foot injury is fully healed, the Buckeyes will have stability at the running back position for next season.

Linebacker Tommy Eichenberger, the leader of the Ohio State defense in 2022, announced that he plans to return for a fifth season.

Defensive end Javontae Jean-Baptiste announced he would be transferring to Notre Dame.

Cornerback JK Johnson is transferring to LSU and safety Jaylen Johnson is transferring to Memphis.
