PORTSMOUTH — Running back Chase Heiland amassed 258 and four touchdowns, as the the Trojan offense piled up 452 total yards en route to a 59-29 win over the Valley Indians on Thursday night at the Trojan Coliseum.
The win marked the seventh consecutive victory for the Trojans over Valley.
And for head coach Bruce Kalb, a lot of Thursday's success came as a result of his offensive line.
“Those big hogs up front, and this might be the biggest we’ve been in a while, those guys really take pride in being offensive linemen,” said Kalb.“They want to be able to run the ball, they want to get down hill, they want to be physical. That’s who this team is.”
Portsmouth found the end zone on its third play from scrimmage, as Heiland broke outside on a sweep and raced 46 yards for his first score of the evening and after freshman quarterback Camron Williams' two-point conversion pass to Noah Livingston, the Trojans led 8-0.
Williams would finish the night completing 5 of 7 passes for 46 yards and a score through the air. He would also rush 12 times for 76 yards and two scores on the ground.
The Indians would answer with a quick strike of their own, as Gabe McNeil caught a screen pass from Carson Powell and managed to break out and go 74-yards to make the score 8-7 with 10:19 remaining in the opening period.
From that point on, the Trojans would take control of the game and rattle off 17-straight points for a 24-7 lead.
Valley would take some momentum into the locker room at halftime, as Powel would hit Aidan Waughtel for a 71-touchdown pass on the final play. McNeil would score on the two-point try and cut the score to 24-15 at halftime.
The Trojans would continue to grind things out in the second half, as touchdowns from Willams and Heiland would balloon Portsmouth's lead to 38-21 after three quarters.
Levaughn Cobb would score on a 1-yard plunge to begin the fourth quarter to extend the Trojans' lead even further to 45-21.
Heiland would add his fourth score of the night on a 45-yard run and Nate Copley would cap the night off with a 25-yard score of his own to make the final 59-29.
Powell would complete 12 of 25 passes for 206 yards and two scores to lead the Indian offense. McNeil led all Valley rushers with 56 yards, as well as all receivers with 72 yards to go along with his three total touchdowns on the evening.
Portsmouth will be on the road next Friday night at Portsmouth West.
Valley will be at home against the Coal Grove Hornets.
