GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands – The Marshall University Men’s Basketball team (1-2) dropped its opening contest at the Cayman Islands Classic Sunday evening to the Utah State Aggies (3-1).
“We didn’t play very well and we don’t have enough resolve,” Herd men’s basketball head coach Dan D’Antoni said after the contest. “We have the talent and physical ability to do it, but we have to have a resolve. That is an aggressiveness and toughness to get the job done.”
Kevon Voyles tallied a team-high 17 points, making seven of his 17 shots. Cameron Crawford reached double-figure scoring with 10 as he went 6-for-7 at the charity stripe, grabbing six boards and dishing out a team-high four assists.
Nate Martin rounded out a trio of Marshall student-athletes with 10 or more points recording 10 as Jacob Conner brought down a team-high seven boards.
Despite trailing by as many as 15 points in the first 30 minutes of play, The Herd brought the deficit to four, 52-48, after Wyatt Fricks made a free throw with 10:23 left on the clock. However, Marshall just couldn’t get on top of the Aggies.
MU led USU in second-chance points, converting 12 offensive rebounds into 14 points to eight points on seven offensive boards for Utah State.
