HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Men’s Basketball team (9-9, 4-1 Sun Belt) dropped it first Sun Belt Conference game of the season, 91-85, to the South Alabama Jaguars (9-8, 2-3 Sun Belt) Saturday afternoon in the Henderson Center.
“They (South Alabama) gave us their best shot today,” Herd men’s basketball head coach Dan D’Antoni said. “We have to match their intensity. Sometimes you get 4-0, you don’t have that same intensity when you want to prove something.”
Obinna Anochili-Killen notched a career-high 26 points as Cameron Crawford tallied a career-best 23 off the bench. Crawford made 10 of his 12 attempts from the field, including all three of his shots from beyond the arc.
Going 6-for-10 from the field, Kamdyn Curfman scored 17 points in the contest.
Despite trailing by as many as 21 points in the second half, 78-57, with 12:18 to go, The Herd fought until the end. Marshall used a 15-0 run to get within six and trailed by as few as four down the stretch, but just couldn’t get on top of the Jags.
MU did outrebound South Alabama, besting them 36-34 on the glass.
Jacob Conner grabbed a game-high nine rebounds with Nate Martin dishing out six assists to tie his career-high.
Game Notes
Anochili-Killen has registered 20 or more points in five games this season, and hasn’t scored fewer than 19 in his last four.
Crawford recorded his second 20-point game of the season, besting his previous career-high of 20 points against Duquesne on December 6.

Marshall goes back on the road Thursday when it heads to Norfolk, Virginia, for a contest at Old Dominion.
