Herd topples Bobcats to extend win streak to 7

HUNTINGTON – The Marshall Thundering Herd extended their winning streak to seven as they defeated the Ohio Bobcats on Saturday in the Cam Henderson Center.

The Herd never trailed in the game. In fact, Marshall has only trailed a grand total of 3:38 in the last seven games.

Marshall (7-1) had five players record double digit scoring on the day, led by 19 from senior Andrew Taylor. The Corbin, Kentucky native also added four rebounds and three assists.

Taevion Kinsey fell just shy of a double-double, recording 18 points to go with a team-high nine rebounds and five assists. Obinna Anochili-Killen added 16 points, Kamdyn Curfman had 11 and freshman Jacob Conner tallied 10.

The Herd used scoring runs of 9-0 and 14-2 during the first half to jump out to a 29-9 lead with about five minutes until halftime.

The teams traded baskets down the stretch in the opening half, freshman Micah Handlogten's lay-up at the buzzer to put the Herd up 43-22 at the break.

The second half was mostly a back-and-forth affair between the two squads. But a three-point goal by redshirt freshman Wyatt Fricks gave Marshall a 81-55 advantage with 4:02 remaining in the contest.

Marshall turned the ball over a season-low six times.

The Herd out-rebounded the Bobcats 44-40, marking the sixth time this season the Herd has won rebounding battle and the game as well.

Ohio (4-4) closed the game on a 14-2 run, but it wasn't enough as the Herd secured a double-digit win.

Marshall will be on the road Thursday night to face the Duquesne Dukes at 7:00 p.m.
