COAL GROVE — This was a roster game for the Ironton Fighting Tigers.
Ironton used 3 pitchers and had 8 different players contributed a hit and or a run batted in as the Fighting Tigers shutout the Coal Grove Hornets 11-0 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Monday.
Tommy Sheridan, Dawson Philyaw and Ian Ginger combined on a 3-hitter with Sheridan going 3 innings for the win.
Sheridan gave up 2 hits with 6 strikeouts and no walks. Philyaw worked an inning with 2 strikeouts, a hit and no walks. Ginger tossed an inning with no hits, 3 strikeouts and 2 walks.
Ironton had 9 hits with Ginger going 2-2, Braydon Baker 1-3 with an RBI, Jon Wylie 1-3 with a double and 2 RBI, Philyaw 1-1, Brady Moatz 1-2 with an RBI, Connor Kleinman 2-3 with a double and 2 RBI, Tyler Roach 1-1 and Chaydan Kerns had an RBI.
Landon Riley was 2-2 and Caden Turner 1-2 with a double for Coal Grove (0-7, 0-4).
Ironton (7-4, 4-2) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning.
Ginger led off with a single, Baker and Moatz walked and Ginger scored on a passed ball. Kerns grounded out as Baker scored and Kleinman singled and an error on the play scored 2 runs.
The lead went to 6-0 in the second inning.
Roach was hit by a pitch with one out, stole second and took third on a wild pitch. Ginger then singled to score Roach.
Ironton put the game away with 5 runs in the fourth inning.
Jayson Maddy reached on an error to start the inning and Roach followed with a single. Ginger was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Maddy scored on a passed ball. Baker reached on an error as Roach scored and Wylie grounded out to score Ginger.
Moatz singled to score a run to make it 10-0. Kerns walked, stole second and scored on a double by Kleinman.
Ironton has a tough week with a makeup game Tuesday against Gallipolis, South Point on Wednesday and Rock Hill on Friday. All 3 games are OVC contests.
