Jackson-less Ravens beat Steelers; stay atop AFC North

Updated: Dec 13, 2022

PITTSBURGH, PA — JK Dobbins rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown and backup quarterback Anthony Brown kept Baltimore's offense steered in the right direction as the Ravens defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 16-14 on Sunday.

For Dobbins, it was his first game since undergoing a second knee surgery in two years ago. Brown was called into action for most of the second half when Lamar Jackson exited the game with a knee injury and backup Tyler Huntley placed in the concussion protocol.

A great deal of credit can be given to Baltimore's offensive line, who controlled the line of scrimmage despite being a mostly one-dimensional team without Jackson.

The Ravens (9-4) ran for 215 yards, including a clinching 6-yard run by Gus Edwards to give his team a first down at the 2-minute warning and allow Baltimore to run out the clock to maintain their first place spot in the AFC North.

Justin Tucker converted three field goals, the Ravens defense picked off three passes and Calais Campbell blocked the eighth kick of his career as Baltimore won in the Steel City for the first time since 2019.

Pittsburgh (5-8) played most of the game without rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett, who entered the concussion protocol in the first quarter .

In a strange sequence, Pickett took a huge hit from Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith, was taken out to be evaluated for a concussion and cleared to return to play. However, he would be pulled after playing one additional series.

This is the second time Pickett has gone into the concussion protocol. He exited a win over Tampa Bay on Oct. 16, a game in which Mitch Trubisky came on in and threw two touchdowns in relief.

Trubisky came in and completed 22 of 30 for 276 yards including a 10-yard touchdown pass to Pat Freiermuth with 2:30 remaining. He also threw three interceptions, all of which came in Baltimore territory.
