COLUMBUS – Jack Johnson and the Columbus Blue Jackets agreed to a one-year deal on Tuesday, brining the veteran defenseman back home to the Arch City.
Johnson, 37, spent seven seasons with the franchise before bouncing around the league to Pittsburgh, Colorado, Chicago and the New York Rangers. He was a member of the Avalanche's Stanley Cup team in 2022.
Johnson's new deal is expected to be worth $775K.
Despite not being the offensive contributor he once was know for, Johnson will most likely be utilized for depth and provide a key veteran presence on a young Blue Jackets roster.
Johnson was a third overall pick with Los Angeles back in 2005 and spent six seasons with the Kings before being dealt to Columbus in the Jeff Carter trade.
Last season, Johnson had just three goals and 13 assists in 80 games with the Avalanche and posted a +15.
