AID — Symmes Valley got another strong pitching performance, the offense scored plenty of runs, and the Vikings beat the Western Indians 12-1 for another Southern Ohio Conference win on Wednesday night.
Will Jones had a solid outing, striking out nine batters in five innings of work and didn't allow a walk.
The Vikings got 11 hits at the plate. Luke Niece went 2-4, Will Jones 2-4, Tanner Corn 3-3, Aydan Taylor 1-3, Mason Stevenson 1-3, Braden Hankins 1-3, and Gradee Holland 1-1.
Western took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, as Kearns led the game off with a single and later scored on a pass ball of the Indians only run of the game.
Symmes Valley (7-5, 4-1 SOC) took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Luke Niece led off with a triple and scored on a single by Jones.
Jones advanced to second on a steal and Tanner Corn drove him home with a double. Corn later scored to give the Vikings the two-run advantage after one inning.
Jones and Corn both drove in three runs, Taylor had two RBIs, and Niece had the other one for Symmes Valley.
The Vikings poured it on in the second and third innings, getting four runs in each inning to get to the 10-run rule.
Symmes Valley added another run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 12-1, and Jones finished things off by striking two out in the top of the fifth.
Kearns, Brewster, Davis and Grooms all went 1-2 for Western. Kerns took the loss, pitching all five innings and giving up six earned runs, but did strike out five batters.
