Kane's OT goal lifts Detroit over Blue Jackets

DETROIT — Patrick Kane completed Detroit's comeback with a goal just 48 seconds into overtime, giving the Red Wings a 4-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night.

Kane's goal came from the bottom of the left circle and bounced off Daniil Tarasov's arm and into the net.

“Obviously, that’s a huge win for us and hopefully it gives us some momentum,” Kane said. “Hopefully, we can look back at this game at some point as a big turning point.”

Columbus looked as if their five-game road trip was going to start off on the right foot, as Zach Werenski got them on the board first, stealing the puck from Christian Fischer in the Columbus zone and beating netminder James Reimer on a breakaway at the 5:56 mark of the opening period.

The Blue Jackets doubled their lead with another breakaway goal, this time by Alexandre Texier. As Columbus killed off Detriot's second power play try, Texier came out of the penalty box for an outlet pass, and lifted the puck over Reimer's shoulder for a 2-0 lead.

However, the lead quickly vanished less than five minutes into the second period with a power play goal from Lucas Raymond and Mortiz Seider shot that ping-ponged off several players on its way into the Columbus net.

The Blue Jackets took one-goal lead at the 4:26 mark of the final period on Marchenko skated into the right circle and lifted a shot that zipped past Reimer's glove, giving Columbus its second power play goal of the night.

With 12.6 seconds remaining in regulation, Raymond tied the score with his second goal of the game after being fed a pass from Shayne Gostisbehere after the face off and sent the game into the extra period.

Columbus managed to get a point but expected more after a strong first period.

“I felt that we were going to win that game, to be honest,” Texier said.

Zach Werenski also had two assists and Tarasov made 23 saves in the losing effort for Columbus. Reimer made 32 stops for Detroit.
