Rock Hill Redmen (1-1) @ Oak Hill Oaks (0-2)
Time: Friday, September 1, 7:00 PM
Where: Davis Stadium, Oak Hill, OH
The Redmen are looking to put together a winning record as they head into conference play next week. Oak Hill will be looking to crack the win column and get some momentum as conference play looms close for them.
Rock Hill:
For the offense, as long as they don't get behind the chains, the ground attack should be able keep the Oaks on their heels.
Rock Hill's defense will have to play in space and tackle against the spread formations of Oak Hill's offense.
Oak Hill:
The Oaks offense must play keep away and not allowed Rock Hill to consume time and control the game. So establishing themselves early is a must.
Defensively, the number one task for Oak Hill will be to limit big gains on early downs and for the Redmen to throw when they don't want to.
Chesapeake Panthers (2-0) @ Southern Tornadoes (0-2)
Time: Friday, September 1, 7:00 PM
Where: Southern Football Stadium, Racine, OH
The Panthers will be vying for a 3-0 start for the first time since 2017. In order to do so, Chesapeake will have to avoid coming out flat after enjoying an upset win just a week ago. The Tornadoes will be in search of their first win of the 2023 season.
Chesapeake:
The Panthers have some quick-strike abilities with Camron Shockley and Dannie Maynard, which could set the tone early if they get loose.
The defense will need to turn in another effort like last week against Minford. This time to avoid giving Southern any confidence of an upset.
Southern:
The Tornadoes offense will need to hold on to the ball for long periods of time and not allow Chesapeake too many chances to let their speedsters get carries.
In order to pull off an upset, the Tornado defense will need contain the perimeter and not allowed the Panthers to get their backs out in space.
River Valley Raiders (0-2) @ Symmes Valley Vikings (0-2)
When: Friday, September 1, 7:00 PM
Where: Symmes Valley Vikings Stadium, Willow Wood, OH
Both teams will be looking for win number one on Friday. The Vikings saw some improvement last Friday and will now look to take the next step. The Raiders will be looking to get momentum before heading into TVC play.
River Valley:
The offense has struggle so far this season. The Raiders will need to take advantage of any opportunities they can get.
Closing down open lanes and flying to the ball will go a long way towards limiting the Vikings offense and giving the Raiders a chance to win.
Symmes Valley:
The offense will be tasked with executing and finishing drives. Those two things could be the mix for a good night on Friday.
Since the Raiders have struggled to score so far, the Vikings must not allow River Valley to get any momentum in the early stages of the game.
Manchester Greyhounds (0-2) @ Green Bobcats (0-2)
Time: Friday, September 1, 7:00 PM
Where: Green Bobcats Stadium, Franklin Furnace, OH
Both teams will be vying for their first win on Friday. The Bobcats showed some improvements despite losing last week. The Greyhounds will need to plug up the leaks in their defense in order to pick up a win in week 3.
Manchester:
Offensively, the Greyhounds will need to put together long-sustained drives and take pressure off their defense.
The defense will need to limit big plays and hold the score down in order to help the offense out on Friday.
Green:
The Bobcats must find ways to expose the weak points in a Manchester defense that is having trouble keeping teams out of the end zone.
Green must control the line of scrimmage. If they can, it opens the door to forcing short drives for Manchester and putting their struggling defense on the field more.
Coal Grove Hornets (2-0) @ Meigs Marauders (0-2)
Time: Friday, September 1, 7:00 PM
Where: Meigs Stadium, Pomeroy, OH
These two teams combined for 95 points last season in a shootout game. The Hornets are looking to stay undefeated as they begin OVC play next week. The Maruaders are looking to crack the win column for the first time this season.
Coal Grove:
The Hornets found success through the air last week. This could be a major asset on Friday and keep the Meigs defense guessing all night.
Meigs have yet to score this season. The defense must limit big plays to dash any hopes of that changing this Friday.
Meigs:
The offense needs to find success any way it can. Just gaining positive yards and moving the chains will help give the offense some momentum.
Defensively, the Maraduers must keep Coal Grove's backfield from getting any steam early on. So expect to see extra bodies at the line of scrimmage.
Game of the Week: Russell Red Devils (1-1) @ South Point Pointers (1-1)
Time: Friday, September 1, 7:00 PM
Where: Alumni Stadium, South Point, OH
Each team comes into this game heading in different directions. For Russell, they'll be looking to rebound after a tough loss to rival Greenup County. As for the Pointers, they're riding some momentum from last week's win against Alexander.
Russell:
The Red Devils will rely on their rushing attack. So big games from RB Andre Richardson-Crews and QB Ethan Pack will be a must.
Russell's defense has done well against the run, which could play to their advantage on Friday night.
South Point:
South Point will need to grab early momentum. So look for Blaine Freeman to be a focal point on the Pointers offensive attack.
The defense must limit the Red Devils ground assault, so the front seven will need to show their physicality on Friday.
Game of the Week: Fairland Dragons (2-0) @ Ironton Fighting Tigers (2-0)
Time: Friday, September 1, 7:00 PM
Where: Tanks Memorial Stadium, Ironton, OH
The OVC title race could be settled by the time the final horn sounds. The Tigers will be looking to avoid letting Fairland recreate their game plan from the 2021, where the Dragons took Ironton to overtime.
Fairland:
The Dragons have enough at their skill positions to challenge Ironton's. So getting the ball out to them and seeing what they can do will be a top priority.
Fairland's defense will need to keep Ironton from gaining huge chunks on early down and force undesirable third-and-long situations.
The Dragons must limit penalties and negative plays, so that they can sustain drives and limit Ironton's offensive chances.
Ironton:
The Tigers need to get into an offensive flow early on. Running backs Zayne Williams and Gavin Hart could be leaned on to make that happen.
Defensively, the secondary will have its hands full with Fairland's passing attack. Which means help from their pass rushers could help ease their worries.
Ironton must limit costly penalties and prevent drives from stalling out in order to make things easier on Friday.
