Kinsey, Herd topple Coastal Carolina 81-66

HUNTINGTON — Taevion Kinsey scored 27 points and Micah Handlogten added career-highs of 19 points and 19 rebounds to power the Marshall Thundering Herd to a 81-66 win over the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on Saturday afternoon in the Cam Henderson Center.


Kinsey also contributed five rebounds and nine assists for the Thundering Herd (13-4, 2-2 Sun Belt Conference). Andrew Taylor added 17 points and eight rebounds in the win.


The Chanticleers used an 8-2 run to cut the Herd's lead down to single digits, 51-43, with 11:11 left in the game.


But Marshall would answer with an 11-2 run over the next three minutes to extend the lead back to double digits.


Kinsey and Handlogten each made a free throw to help spark the run. Taylor followed up with a trifecta off one of Kinsey's assists.


The run would get capped off by Handlogten's first collegiate three-pointer to give Marshall a 17-point lead, 62-45.


The lead would be the largest of the game and the Herd would cruise the rest of theway to victory.


Antonio Daye led the scoring for the Chanticleers (7-8, 1-3) with 15 points and two steals. Linton Brown tallied 11 points and Essam Mostafa also added 10 points.


The Herd will return to action on Thursday hosting the Southern Miss Golden Eagles at 9 p.m. in the Cam Henderson Center. The game will televised on ESPN2.
