Kraken keep pace in wild card race with 4-3 shootout win over Bruins

SEATTLE — Seattle kept pace in a crowded Western Conference wild card race, as Kailer Yamamoto netted the only goal in a shootout to give the Kraken a 4-3 shootout win over the Boston Bruins on Monday night.

It was a disappointing end to Boston’s road trip. Despite picking up 5 of the 8 possible points on the four-game trip, the Bruins lost three straight beyond regulation.

Despite the loss, the Bruins (34-12-14) picked up a point and remain tied with idle Vancouver for most points in the NHL at 82.

The Kraken managed to overcome David Pastrnak's two-goal effort. The forward notched his 700th – 701st and 702nd points of his career as a Bruin, making him just the 10th player in franchise history to do so.

Seattle got goals from Jordan Eberle, Vince Dunn and Oliver Bjorkstrand, as the Kraken had to come from behind twice to tie the game.

Pastrnak got the Bruins on the board first at 5:53 of the first period. Kevin Shattenkirk took control of the puck deep in his own end and fed it ahead to Pastrnak, who broke away down the middle of the ice ahead of Seattle defenders Will Borgen and Jamie Oleksiak. Pastrnak went 1-on-1 against Phillipp Grubauer and beat him on his glove side with a top shelf goal.

Pastrnak’s 37th goal of the season was his 700th career point. He is the 10th Bruins player to reach that milestone.

"You get a few and you want to score more and more,” Pastrnak said. “I’ll definitely have to do some research on how to score more.”

Eberle tied it up in the second period on a power play goal when Bruins goalie Linus Ullmark tried to send the puck up ice in front of his own net, but Eberle stepped in front of Ullmark and the puck bounced in front of him for the tip-in.

But Pasrnak would put the Bruins back ahead as he netted his second goal of the night at the 17:08 mark of the second frame and give Boston a 2-1 edge at the second intermission.

Dunn's shot from the left circle tied the game up at 2 just over five minutes into the final period.

Boston appeared to have taken a 1-goal lead on a shot by Morgan Geekie with 9:14 to go, but the call was overturned after a successful challenge by Seattle for goaltender interference.

Bjorkstrand put Seattle ahead 3-2 with 5:30 left in the third when he redirected a shot by Alex Wennberg that got past Ullmark for his 14th goal.

Pastrnak tied it at 3 on a power play with 2:52 left in regulation.

In the shootout, Yamamoto's forehand shot beat Ullmark on the first shot attempt by Seattle. Grubauer turned aside all three Bruins attempts, the last of which was by Pastrnak.

Grubauer made 29 saves on the night. Ullmark stopped 23 shots for Boston in the losing effort.
