McDERMOTT — A big season just got a big win.
Enjoying a strong season, the Green Lady Bobcats added to it with a 39-34 win over the Northwest Lady Mohawks on Thursday.
“This was a huge win for our program. To beat a Division 3 school is a tribute to our girls,” said Lady Bobcats’ coach Melissa Knapp.
“I’m proud of my girls. We made some adjustments after a sloppy win on Monday.”
Abbie Knapp scored 8 points, Matti Hayslip 3 and Addison Blizzard hit a trifecta as Green took a 14-4 first quarter lead.
Mylee Brown hit a 3-pointer and Mylee Hunt had a basket as Green went up 19-8 at the half.
Northwest came out in the second half and outscored Green 14-7 to cut the deficit to 26-22. Karleigh South hit a 3-pointer and scored 7 points for the Lady Mohawks and Kaylee Johnson hit a 3-pointer.
Knapp scored all 7 of Green’s points.
Hayslip — who hit a 3-pointer — and Knapp scored 5 points each while Blizzard hit another 3-pointer as Green (12-8) outscored Northwest 14-11 in the fourth quarter.
Mollyann Runyon and Claire Newman scored 4 points each and Abby Throckmoton nailed a 3-pointer for the Lady Mohawks (8-13).
Knapp finished with a game-high 20 points while Hayslip added 8.
South led Northwest with 13 points.
