BIDWELL — The Shirelles sang the lyrics “Mama said there would be days like this” back in 1961 to their hit song Mama Said.
It must have been playing on an oldies station on Saturday.
The Coal Grove Lady Hornets had one of those days in a 45-26 loss to the River Valley Lady Raiders.
‘We basically no-showed on Saturday,” said Lady Hornets’ coach Nick Miller. “After a good win on Thursday at Gallia, River Valley plays a chaotic brand of basketball and we just couldn’t get any rhythm going.
“We had a hard time getting into our offense. We had 25 turnovers and shot 19 percent. That typically results in a loss, which is what happened.”
The game started bad for the Lady Hornets and didn’t get any better.
Kallie Burger hit a 3-pointer and scored 5 points while Edwards had 4 points as River Valley took an 11-3 first quarter lead.
Edwards knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and scored 8 points as the Lady Raiders went up 26-10 at the half.
Jenna Anson had 3 points while Emma Lively and Izzy Kitts each had a basket for Coal Grove (6-7).
Edwards scored 5 points as she and Kaylin Burger each made 3-pointers and River Valley extended the lead to 36-16.
Kasey Vanderhoof scored 4 of Coal Grove’s 6 points.
Kitts had 4 points and Anson was 4 of 4 at the line as Coal Grove outscored River Valley 10-9 in the fourth quarter.
Edwards scored 4 points and Mullins hit a 3-pointer for the Lady Raiders (12-5).
Anson had 9 points and Kitts 7 to lead Coal Grove.
Edwards had 21 points and Mullins 10 for the Lady Raiders.
