ATHENS — The “E” in the linescore stands for errors. On Wednesday, it stood for exasperated.
The Coal Grove Lady Hornets were very exasperated as they committed 7 errors that helped the South Webster Lady Jeeps post a 7-2 win in the Division 3 regional semifinals at Ohio University.
The error led directly to 4 unearned runs and spoiled the Lady Hornets first-ever regional playoff appearances.
Abbie Deeds took the loss for Coal Grove as she gave up 8 hits, 3 earned runs with 8 strikeouts and only one walk.
Jaiden White got the win as she gave up hits with 7 strikeouts and a walk. Both runs were earned.
South Webster took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Lauren Kaltenbach led off with a single, went to third on a double by Skylar Zimmerman and both scored on an error.
The Lady Jeeps got a run in the second when Jaiden White doubled and took third on an error. Laiken Lancaster grounded out as White scored.
The lead went to 5-0 in the third inning.
Bre Claxon singled and Addi Claxon followed with a two-run home run.
The Lady Jeeps got a run in the fourth when Zimmer reached on an error and Bree Claxon doubled.
The final South Webster run scored in the fifth on a two-out walk to M Raynard who came around when White reached on an error.
Coal Grove avoided the shutout with a pair of runs in the seventh inning.
Braelie Hitchcock , Kendall Taylor and Kassidy Travis all single for a run to start the inning.
Two outs later, Izzy Kitts doubled home a run.
Shay Collins was 2-3, Kitts 2-4 with a double and an RBI and Taylor 2-3 to pace Coal Grove. Hitchcock was 1-2, Travis 1-3 with an RBI and Deeds 1-4.
Bella Blaxon was 2-4 with a double, home run and 2 RBI and Kaltenbach was 2-4 with an RBI to lead the Lady Jeeps.
South Webster plays Wheelersburg on Friday in the regional finals. Wheelersburg beat Meadowbrook 12-2.
