COAL GROVE — It takes a village to raise a child. It takes a team to beat an opponent.
The Coal Grove Lady Hornets used a team effort to beat the Tolsia Lady Rebels 56-24 on senior night Thursday.
“We played pretty good defense most of the game. It was a good team effort,” said Lady Hornets’ coach Nick Miller.
“I was pleased with the effort of all our girls, especially our seniors Alivia Noel and Kinsy Keeney. We’re a young team and both of them have shown great leadership all season.”
Noel scored 11 points and Keeney 10 points to pace a balanced offense that saw 10 of the 11 players score.
Abbie Deeds knocked down a 3-pointer and Noel had 4 points as the Lady Hornets took an 11-2 first quarter lead.
Amber Stevens had the lone Tolsia basket.
Shay Collins and Kendall Taylor each hit 3-pointers and Noel was 3-of-4 from the foul line as Coal Grove built a 22-8 lead at the half.
Stevens had 4 points and Kilee Preece 2 for the Lady Rebels (8-10).
Keeney scored 7 points while Emma Lively had 5 points including a 3-pointer in the third quarter as the lead went to 36-19.
Olivia Kelly and Emily Artrip got 4 points each for Tolsia.
Jenna Anson and Deeds scored 4 points each in the fourth quarter as 7 different players scored and Coal Grove (9-12) outscored Tolsia 19-5.
Artrip hit a 3-pointer for Tolsia.
Coal Grove plays at Alexander on Saturday at 1 p.m.
