Lady Panthers beat Lady Tigers in defensive battle

CHESAPEAKE — Defense was the name of this game and it was a name used by both teams.


The Chesapeake Lady Panthers stopped the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers 37-24 on Thursday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.


Erin Hicks scored 6 points and Kate Ball 4 as Chesapeake took a 12-5 first quarter lead.

Peyton Deer drained a trifecta for Ironton.


Ironton cut the deficit to 18-13 at the half as Emerson White buried a shot from behind the arc, Addison Neal had 3 points and Mia Weber added a basket.


Brooklyn McComas hit a 3-pointer, Hicks went 2-for-2 and Abbey Isaacs 1-for-2 at the foul line for Chesapeake.


But Ball drilled a 3-pointer and had 5 points while Hannah Webb and McComas each knocked down 3-pointers in the third quarter and the lead went to 30-19.


Lexi McCall, Murray and White had baskets for Ironton.


The Lady Panthers outscored Ironton 7-5 in the fourth quarter as Webb had 3 points with Ball and Isaacs each making a basket.


Deer hit another trey and White 2 free throws for Ironton.


Ball scored 11 points, Hicks had 8 while Isaacs, McComas and Webb all scored 6 points to pace the LadyPanthers.


White had 7 points and Deer 6 for Ironton (4-9, 2-6).
