PEDRO — On the surface, it was a win. But digging a little deeper, there was more to this win.

After losing nearly a month ago 61-59 to Rock Hill, the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers were able to avenge that loss and earned themselves sole possession of a third place finish in the Ohio Valley Conference in the process.

The win also guaranteed the Lady Fighting Tigers (12-11, 7-7) would finish with a .500 record or better and it gave them a sixth straight win and seventh in the past nine games.

Ironton’s top two scorers Lola Hankins and Emerson White were limited to 11 and 10 points, respectively, but point guard Peyton Deer stepped up and hit four 3-point goals and scored 15 points to pace the balanced offense.

J’lynn Risner scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Redwomen.

Rock Hill (8-15, 2-12) was short-handed again with just six healthy players and trailed by just 6 points at halftime before Ironton took over in the second half.

Ironton took a 13-9 first quarter lead as Deer had 5 points as she, White and Hankins all hit 3-pointers. Jolee Hankins had the other basket.

Risner scored 6 points and Samantha Bamer hit a 3-pointer for the Redwomen.

The Lady Fighting Tigers went ahead 23-17 at the break as Deer and White each hit 3-pointers.

Risner had 4 points and Myles Bailey was 2 of 2 at the foul line.

Ironton extended its lead to 35-26 in the third quarter as Lexi McCall scored all 5 of her points, Lola Hankins scored 4 points and Deer hit yet another 3-pointer.

Risner had 4 points with Abigail Payne and Bailey each adding baskets.

The Lady Fighting Tigers put the game away as they outscored the Redwomen 14-7 in the fourth quarter.

White had a pair of baskets, Deer hit her fourth 3-pointer and sank a foul shot, and Addison Neal and Lola Hankins both went 2 of 2 at the foul line.

Rock Hill got a basket from Risner but the Redwomen were only able to convert 5 of 12 free throws as a team in the quarter.
