PT. PLEASANT, W.Va. — The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings got what they needed and they got it from everyone.
The Lady Vikings used a team effort to make the needed plays as they blanked the Pt. Pleasant Lady Knights 6-0 and stunned the Independence Lady Patriots 7-4 on Saturday.
“We had a great team effort in both games. We got pitching, hitting and defense. It seemed like every time we needed someone to step up, they did. It was just a great team effort all day,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.
The Lady Vikings took a 2-0 lead in the first inning against Pt. Pleasant.
Brenna Tibbs singled, stole second, took third on a wild pitch and scored on Lindsey Freeman’s sacrifice fly.
Marley Ferguson followed with a home run to left field.
Symmes Valley (5-1) put the game away with 4 runs in the fifth inning.
Kaycee Thompson was safe on an error, Addi Ridenour hit into fielder’s choice, Addy Hawk singled and Tibbs singled home the runners. Freeman singled home Tibbs and Ferguson and Alyssa Waugh singled for the final run.
Ribbs held the Lady Knights to just 2 hits as she struck out 4 and walked 2.
Ferguson went 3-4 with the home run while Freeman, Tibbs and Waugh all went 2-4.
Symmes Valley will host Northwest on Wednesday in an SOC-2 game.

Game 2
Addy Hawk won her pitching debut as the Lady Vikings scored 3 runs late to win 7-4 and hand the Independence Lady Patriots their first loss in 9 games.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Lady Vikings tied the game in the third.
Tibbs tripled and Freeman had an RBI single. Ferguson and Emma Ridenour followed with singles for a run.
Symmes Valley (6-1) took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth.
Ridenour singled, Waugh walked and Autumn Justice singled for the go-ahead run. Waugh went to third on a wild pitch and Kaycee Thompson hit a sacrifice fly.
Independence tied the game in the top of the sixth but the Lady Vikings got 3 runs in the bottom of the frame.
With one out, Tibbs and Freeman walked and Ferguson singled in a run. Ridenour singled to score Freeman and a throwing error on the play allowed Ferguson to score.
Hawk gave up 8 hits, 3 earned runs, struck out 6 and did not walk a batter.
Ferguson and Ridenour were 3-4 and Tibbs was 2-3 with a triple.
