PEDRO — Sometimes you just get a gift.
The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings made 7 errors for the second straight game but managed to get a 14-10 win over the Rock Hill Redwomen on Thursday.
“We hit the ball well. I had no gripes with that. But you have to play both sides of the field. We made too many physical and mental mistakes. We got the win, but you’re not going to do that very many times,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.
The Lady Vikings went up 1-0 in the first inning on a home run by Brenna Tibbs.
Rock Hill tied the game in the bottom of the inning as Long doubled, moved up on an error and scored on Gillespie’s ground out.
The Redwomen took a 2-1 lead with 2 out in the second as Kidd doubled and scored after a wild pitch and a passed ball.
The Lady Vikings rallied to take a 4-2 lead in the top of the third only to have the Redwomen get 3 runs in the bottom of the inning,
Stapleton reached on an error, Gillespie singled and Hackworth doubled in both runners. Hackworth moved up on a ground out and scored on a passed ball.
In the fifth, Emma Ridemnour tripled and scored on a triple by Tibbs. Simpson grounded out as Tibbs scored to make it 6-5.
With one out, Hackworth walked and Melvin singled. Wilds walked and Kidd doubled home 2 runs. An error let Kidd go to third where she scored on a passed ball.
Kaycee Thompson doubled, moved up on ground out and scored on a hit by Tibbs.
Desiree Simpson doubled home Tibbs and then scored on a double by Savannah Mart.
In the bottom of the fifth, Marley Ferguson doubled, went to third on a ground out by Natalie Simpson and scored on Addy Ridenour’s double. Thompson then singled home Ridenour.
Thompson went to second on a passed ball and Emma Ridenour had an RBI double.
In the seventh, with one out Mart doubled and scored on a hit by Ferguson. Ally Haydon hit into a fielder’s choice and Addy Ridenour creaked a 2-run home run.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Melvin walked and Wilds belted a 2-run home run and it was 14-10.
The Lady Vikings had 13 his as Addy Ridenour was 2-4 with a double, home run and 3 RBI, Tibbs 3-4 with a triple, home run and 2 RBI, Emma Ridenour 2-4 with a double and triple, Mart, Thompson and Ferguson 2-4 with a double and Desiree Simpson 1-4 with a double.
Symmes Valley plays Lynn Camp, Ky., at Pigeon Forge at 11 a.m. and then Madison Southern at 1 p.m.
